what i'm loving wednesday: antlers. Yes, antlers.

You probably thought the title was a typo.

Last week I posted this picture on Instagram with the caption...

"Chad thinks I'm the coolest wife ever for asking him to paint one of his many antlers to display in the house. Fastest "honey do" he's ever done. Now, just don't tell him this trend is all over Pinterest, mmmkay?"

Let's face it. Chad would decorate our entire house in CAMO if he could. He wanted to buy Cade camo crib bedding the minute he found out we were having a boy. Granted, Chad doesn't walk around wearing camo hats (well not all the time), cowboy boots, and Wranglers and I would have said his neck isn't that red, if you know what I mean, but the more I listen to Blake Shelton's new song....ummm...maybe so. Thanks Blake for clearing that up and letting us all know what a redneck is and the steps to chewing tobacco. In case we didn't know. [Am I the only one who gets that darn song stuck in their head???Aaaah!]

He is a true Southern good ol' boy whose hobbies have always included hunting and fishing (sometimes to the extreme. Hellooo, how many hunting trips can you take in one year! Ha) But, that's what he loves to do - just as much as I love to shop - so I've never opened my mouth. I definitely want him to have hobbies and do what he loves. However, what I have opened my mouth about is banning deer heads in the house from the time we got married [nothing wrong with it, just didn't think it fit in with our "decor"] and I finally won my battle with the mounted turkey that was strategically hidden by me behind our couch. When Cade began walking he kept pulling out the feathers, so praise the Lord he got it out because it was seriously taking up some much needed room. But as we all know friends, marriage is a compromise so I earned back my wifey-coolness-factor by asking for painted antlers to "decorate with".

"Decorate?" He asked. "Like, you mean put in a wreath or something?"

He did NOT understand, but then I showed him all these fun images on Pinterest and he was floored

I'm kind of loving it.

If you're decorating a beach house, you decorate with coral.
If you are decorating a country home out in the boonies , you decorate with antlers.
Am I right or am I right?

and BRONZE European mounts...
This may be Chad's next project.
Glamour meets Bass Pro Shop. Unreal, y'all.

Who's jumping on the bandwagon with this trend? OR if you're from the South and have a "hunting-and-fishing-addicted-husband" like me, you may not even consider this a trend. They just end up on you back door step after a morning hunt.
If you need any, just ask Chad. Oh and don't look at the prices of painted antlers on Etsy (ohmyword - are they serious!) He's got plenty.

As for using antlers in future home decor, this really fits us. I use to think I would want a totally glamorous home in a subdivision, but seeing as how I was born and bred out in "the country" - 20 minutes from absolutely everything - I've embraced where we live and what "fits us". Our dream home is a big country farmhouse (hence those interior design books in that first pic) and we really want to incorporate a classic style home with good bones, furnished with family antiques that mean so much to us. Then throw in a modern twist!

and you better believe Chad is still asking me if there will be room for his deer heads when and IF we ever build this modest dream home. I guess you will have to wait and see how much I am willing to compromise!

Coming up tomorrow: our favorite farmhouses and our inspiration!
