So yesterday was an adventure.
Looking ahead at our calendar, we realized that the month of October is going to be crazy to say the least. Every weekend there's something going on and we're both out of town a lot, but never at the same time. Me with market and him with his annual shrimping trips in Beaufort. Then I have my first showers in November before it gets too crazy with the holidays. Whew, we knew that if we had a free Sunday afternoon together we needed to at least go register for "the big stuff", since that was what I wanted Chad's help with the most. After all, he IS going to be picking little one up from the sitter and carrying the car seat, stroller, etc... so I figured he'd be a huge help when it came to that because you know what? I. have. no. idea. what we need.
After church we went to Greenville and had lunch at Longhorn. You know, priorities first. We knew we wanted to register for the majority of items at Target, just because we have a Target in Anderson and that's more convenient for a lot of our friends and family than traveling to Greenville [45min - an hour away]. But we'd register for items at either Buy Buy Baby or Babies R Us that weren't available at Target. See what I mean? Maybe not the best plan, but hey I thought it was the most practical. We still registered for things like bottles, blankets, etc.. at both. Things you need several of. That way there's more options and variety at both places!
So then we had to decide between Babies R Us and Buy Buy Baby. I had heard a few friends say customer service at our particular Babies R Us wasn't the best and I've heard nothing but great things about BBB. Even experienced it myself when I bought gifts for friends earlier this year. The staff is SO helpful when you need to purchase gifts from a registry then they wrap everything up for free and the BEST part - you can use Bed Bath and Beyond 20% off coupons off of any items! If you have 5 coupons, you can use them off 5 different items. Some say BBB is more expensive but I price checked on the major items and it all compared to be about the same. Then of course you can use coupons, even better. So Buy Buy Baby it was.
Now let me remind you that Chad never once went to register with me before our wedding. That was all mom and I. He could care less which pattern of china I chose, ya know. So when he found out he could carry around an actual scanner and "scan things" with the "cool red line", his eyes lit up like a kid in a candy store. He had also been humming "...baby BYE BYE BYE" by NSync. {Yes, excuse me, how does he even know that song?} everytime I mentioned Buy Buy Baby.
I knew I was in trouble. Ehhh, but at least he was excited right?
So I had the "list" and helpful book they gave you and handed him the almighty scanner. Y'all, before I could even pick up something to read the back of the box and see if we needed it or not, he literally pounced on me with the scanner and tried to scan it. "HOLD ON, I don't even know if we need this!" When he finally got to scan something, he was hooked. I had to keep my eyes on him at all times. If not, this is what happens...
When I became distracted by baby safety kits, I look over and he had scanned a .99 cent bottle of travel size baby shampoo.
Nope, not kidding.
"Did you really just scan a .99 cent bottle of shampoo? What are you doing? Delete that!"
"Uh Sandi, we NEED these things for travel." Then he starts laughing. "Leave it on there, I want to see if someone gets it. Hey whoever buys it, will get a prize."
Ohh emmm gee. Do you see what I deal with day in and day out?
I was like a hawk from then on out. It was like an impulse. When I barely picked something up to research, he wanted to scan before I could even say "SCAN!" I laughed so hard at his comments too. "What in the heck is this for?" or "Oh, he definitely needs this!"
Then we proceeded to the bouncy seats and swings. He laid his eyes on the "Mama Roo" swing demonstration and began to play with the buttons.
Big mistake.
"Honey, I think we're just going to go with the Fisher Price Snugabunny Swing and I can register for it at Target"
"WHAT? Snugga-WHO? What about the Mama ROO? This thing is awesome. I mean what if Cade wants to "ride the ocean waves and jump like a kangaroo!" [Those are just a few of the settings]
I gave him the look, then we proceeded to the next item. He quickly put his head down and said "You're no fun. I'm just trying to "hook a kid up"
Nice.
By the end of our trip, he was scanning things like crazy and even got the scanner "locked up" and had to take it to customer service to be fixed. Again, it was all quite comical.
He did finally get to pick out a few things ALL on his own and scan them. He was so proud. His prized posession of the day was picking out the Chicco ct0.6 lightweight stroller in ORANGE, of all colors. [yes, I let him since he is a Clemson fan and Cade does have a lot of orange in his nursery. Just don't expect us to take it to a Carolina game, that's all] It really is SO lightweight, only 11 lbs. Unbelievable. I really like it!
All in all, he really was a huge help and I'm so glad he went with me. I asked him "Do you want to go on over to Target and finish up?" He even said yes, but I was exhausted and we had so much other stuff to do yesterday. Oh well, at least we got a few things registered [even though I still can not for the life of me decide on a travel system. Any suggestions? Please!] and I'll go back to Target to finish up this week.
Alone.
Leaving my little scanning natzi at home this time or we may have a travel sized baby powder on the Target registry :)
oh chad. he cracks me up! next time there is an adventure like this...i want to go. :)
