Happy Father's Day

Sunday, June 19, 2011

I was looking through my Walgreens photo albums and found an album titled "Father's Day" from 2008.

the last Father's Day I spent with my dad.
[if you're new to the blog, he passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack at the age of 53. One month before our wedding, no less. You can try to plan your life 100% the way you want it to go, but God will ALWAYS have a plan]

Courtney and I printed and framed this photo as one of his gifts.
It was our favorite.
This is how it use to be. We were always daddy's girls.

I also have this photo on my fridge. Another one of my favorites.
If there was one thing I wanted to be, it was to be like my dad.
Trucker hat and all. Didn't matter to me as long as I was just like him. Ironically, I turned out to be an entrepreneur like himself and there's no denying I'm his child because I
look. just. like. him.
I adored him and miss him so much today.
Even after 3 years, it still doesn't feel like it gets much easier.
There's so many important life events I wish he was here for. Sometimes I reach for my cell phone, only to remember I can't just call him up and tell him all the things I want to tell him. Never miss an opportunity to show your parents how much they mean to you and how much you love them. You never know when it could be the last time.
I know he's smiling down from heaven, strumming his guitar as he always did and singing with that heavenly choir. The wonderful memories we shared will always bring a smile to my face.
Here's another post I found that I did last year. Love that song by MercyMe and this was always daddy's favorite verse:

"I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith"
-2 Timothy 4:7

Happy Father's Day to my Papa, my wonderful father in law, and grandfather-in-law. Still very blessed to have these men in my life!

  3. Thanks ladies, that's one thing he did do just a few months before he passed, he watched me fulfill my dream and open Sugar then he would always email me how proud he was. That meant the absolute WORLD to me. I still have those emails printed and hanging in my back office at Sugar. Also knowing he was a Christian man makes it easier since I know I will see him again :) Thanks for all the prayers. Yall are sweet sweet friends.
