There's something refreshing about starting a new blank page or a new blank month in your planner. I've been using Emily Ley's Simplified Planner since September and I absolutely love it. It gives me a lot more room to write daily lists and schedules.
My favorite pens are Staedtler and Sharpie pens. I also got this fun new mousepad (because mine was in desperate shape) from Sugar. We carry a line of personalized jewelry and gifts called Heartstrings!
I sat down today to think ahead to 2017, but honestly one of my resolutions is to simply take it "one day at a time, sweet Jesus" just like the ol' gospel song says. I really do not want to spend my days planning and planning, only wishing and hoping for the future. That's when you miss the real gift - the PRESENT. I simply want to live more in the moment, but sure it's fun to plan goals because I do love a sense of accomplishment and I do love a fun trip, party and to entertain. Those are some of my favorite things so of course why wouldn't my year be filled with it? Here's a few goals, not resolutions, for 2017...
- Fill my year (and life) with my favorite things and say "no" to commitments that I just do not love. I love to travel, love to entertain and love QT with my boys. I hope that I can plan a few fun trips, host more dinners and parties (nothing extravagant or worth stressing, but simply entertain and spend more qt with friends and family in our home!) and definitely try to plan more fun adventures with my boys!
- Everyone says this, but I do mean it: I have GOT to eat better. Eating more healthy in 2017 is a huge goal. To provide for my family and be the best mom (and also business owner!) I can be, I need to feel good. I need my body to not be so stressed and frazzled. I want to have more energy. I need the proper nutrition to fuel my body and fuel my days. I hope to finally shed some of this baby weight (now that Charlie is 18 months and all!) I've also got to start exercising again because I am sooo out of shape.
- Carve out more time to catch up with old friends and plan more reunions, if you will. I don't see some of my college friends near enough and we always say "we are just so busy, etc..." Life IS busy, but it would certainly be more sweet if I carved out some more girl time!
- random, but I want to finally finish Shutterfly books for my pregnancy with Charlie, Charlie's first year and our house building process. I've put them off for long enough!
- As far as house goals, there's definitely several projects I want to accomplish (one being: CLEAR MORE CLUTTER! ugh) and I hope to share throughout the year. Last year we tackled several big ones! It's a never-ending process but having an organized , happy home makes ME happy, brings me peace and makes me feel like we have a sense of order.
Emily Ley talks so much about this in her book, Grace Not Perfection, which I picked up as a Christmas gift to myself when it was on sale at Target. I have one of her prints (this quote actually) hanging in our bathroom at Sugar as a reminder that you should certainly live by grace, not perfection!
That's going to be a huge theme for me in 2017.
More grace, less striving for perfection!
More embracing SIMPLICITY, less clutter and chaos.
More celebrating JOY, especially in the little things and less focus on things that simply do. not. matter.
I would highly recommend this book if you are a burnt out mama searching for answers...searching for grace...searching for inspiration to begin the new year (my hand raised to all!)
Happy 2017 friends!
