When daddy has to work every Saturday now (and mommy most of the time does too), we take an ordinary Monday and make it into a "Monday-Fun-Day"! We thought about going on Sunday, but with me having help at the store on Mondays and Chad being able to take a Monday off rather than a Saturday at the post office, Monday seemed like the day to go. We figured it would be less crowded than if we attempted a Sunday too. So a little over a week ago I purchased tickets online and made plans to scoot up to Tweetsie Railroad (about a three hour drive for us. Straight shot up I-85 then hit 321) because I knew Thomas the Train would only be there June 6th-15th.
Chad has cousins that live in Boone, NC and he has been to Tweetsie with his fam so many times. I've never been (having a sister, mom just took us to Cabbage Patch Land I guess). Cade loves Mickey Mouse Club and Thomas the Train. I knew he would love to ride any choo choo train, period, and our cousins ensured us that he would also love all the rides because they are targeted to his age group.
Well, yep he sure did and it was so much fun!
We met up with Aunt Sallie, cousin Jackie, and cousin Brianne's little ones Abigail and Claire.
(Brianne and Josh were at work, Jackie had just had her tonsils out the previous week, and Sallie keeps the kids every day. They have season passes to Tweetsie and had even just been on that Sunday. They go all the time!)
Here's Abigail, Cade, and Claire riding the boat with another little girl who hopped on the ride.
They look so serious!
The carousel was a must and as much as I love my boy,
I enjoyed snuggling these pink-wearing precious girls all day too!!
We rode the cars, carousel, tilt-a-whirl (that was the only thing Cade did not love. I did not even love it. When did I get so old?), airplanes, boats, and chair lift up to the petting zoo. There was even a mini "train/rollercoaster" ride, helicopters and ferris wheel for his age but we ran out of time because we had 2:00 tickets to ride Thomas the Train!! Pretty sure you would be fine just getting your tickets at the gate at Tweetsie, but for Thomas and other special events like Halloween, it's probably better to reserve train time so it ensures you have a spot.
Cade had to get a Thomas "pattoo" (tattoo) before riding Thomas.
Thomas is legit guys. His eyes and mouth move, it was pretty neat. Cade didn't know what to think!
He looooved the little Wild West show as well, when "Thomas saved the day"!
Again, even if it were just a quick day trip, it was such a fun day with my little family and sweet cousins too.
We can't wait to go back! These sweet babies melt my heart...
Tweetsie's not a huge theme park or anything, but has several restaurants, fun "Western themed" little stores, magic shows, petting zoo, and most importantly almost all but three rides that are targeted to Cade's age. We didn't even get to see everything. Tickets aren't crazy expensive either. Kids 3 and under get in free. It's the perfect little theme park for toddlers and if you've got a Thomas the Train fan in your household, you must make plans to go every June. Worth it!
