master bedroom revamp

Let me preface this by saying...

#1. This is far from a "Pinterest" bedroom. [a.k.a this is just a normal ol' room in a normal ol' house. any and all interior designers out there, help will be welcomed and appreciated!] I just love fashion and interior design and hope to incorporate my style into my home.

#2. We live in a small house, which has been the best starter house and quite frankly we have loved (and still love) living here. We certainly have big plans of building our dream home one day but all in good time. For now, we just work with what we got :)

So I give you our Master Bedroom,

BEFORE

We purchased our bed/nightstand on sale at Pier 1 and this Pottery Barn bedding nearly five years ago when we first got married/moved in. For about four years, this duvet cover was perfect. I'd switch out shams every once in a while but it was very "animal print" and a little dark.

"FYI: our floors are real cedar that my dad put down entirely by himself years ago when he lived in the house"

I got SO tired of wrangling that duvet cover and just wanted a simple comforter. The duvet would NEVER stay put in the cover and drove me nuts. The chair in the corner was nothing but a mass "catch all" and constantly had piles of clothes. The whole room was dark, needed lightening up and just needed an overall "revamp" [on a major budget mind you...]

I was inspired by this page in Ballard Designs catalog...

and this in Grandin Road

So Voila! I give you our master bedroom

AFTER

Found the "LOVE" letters at Hobby Lobby 1/2 off ($40 total).
(funny story, they ONLY had the "V" in the gold, so I just went with it. Chad does NOT understand.
He always asks if the "V" is "suppose" to be different. Men.)

Ordered the Fieldcrest Ogee Paisley Comforter Set from Target for $119 as a Christmas
present to each other. We had to purchase the King because even though we have a queen bed, we have an olympic queen mattress. (yep, slightly too big for bed but it works) SO the pillows look a little big too but again, it works.

Accent pillows made by a family friend and the fabric was insanely cheap from the fabric sale at All About You Fabrics in Williamston, SC.
pillow inserts 1/2 off at Hob Lob. Total for all = maybe $45. not even joking
(side note: the monogram lady monogrammed the pillow cover the wrong way. Well, I think of it as the wrong way. Who doesn't know the chevron goes horizontal, not vertical? My OCD side wanted a whole new pillow cover but then realized that's just silly so maybe I'm starting a new trend? I'm about over chevron now that I've used it so much at Sugar and Cade's party but oh well, I just love how the colors/patterns mix so well for now!)

New small accent rug from TJ Maxx for $14.99

We just moved this table from one side of the room to the other and it totally makes more sense here and serves as my "nightstand" since I could never find (nor did I want to spent $) on a nightstand for my side.

The table was where the elephant is now, which we already had in our master bathroom. As you can see, I still have remnants of the animal print in the room which will switch up if I can find something else later on.

Also want a new lamp and new curtains, but again one thing at a time. For now, our "less than $200" revamp makes me [and my wallet] pretty darn happy!

Next up: tomorrow I'll post my favorite Master Bedrooms from Pinterest. Yeah, the ones that look way better than mine and I only dream of having one day :)

  1. Looks great! The new throw pillows definitely help lighten up your space. And I love the "LOVE", and think the different colors adds character!
