5 Months!

Our precious Cade, what a month it has been!

Cade is 5 months old today on his granddaddy Charles and great-granddaddy Wendell's birthdays. Daddy would have been 57 and Papa 79. Always a difficult day, always a difficult week {On Friday it will be 4 years since daddy passed away} Miss them so much and wish they were here so we could have a big ol' celebration but I know they are smiling down on us, grinning from ear to ear, as Cade keeps us laughing, keeps us highly entertained, and keeps us on our toes for sure!
I also know Cade has so many guardian angels looking over him daily. He looks up into the blue and smiles all the time, it's the sweetest thing.
  • At your 4 month check up you were 16.7 lb and 26 inches. I'm guessing now you are definitely around 18 lb. I feel like you get heavier every time I pick you up. You are solid. It's so cute now I can carry you around on my hip.
  • Size 2 diapers, about to switch to size 3. Clothing is mostly 6 months and some 6-9 & 12 month sleepers. Swim shirts definitely 9 and 12 months.

  • Last week you sat up on your own for about 10 seconds or so. You've sat up a couple times since then, only for 20 seconds max but you're getting better every time. Excited you may be sitting up well by the time we go to the beach!

  • When you're done with the bottle you swat it. You are also better about grabbing it and pulling it towards you, as with your paci. You like the Nuk pacis the best.
  • So at your 4 month check up your dr. said we could probably start cereal soon since you seem plenty big enough. Well to me that meant like that week {what? you're a big baby and I knew you were hungry!} So we started by trying rice cereal just once or twice in the evening that week and it took you about three times to get the hang of it. Boy when you did it was all over. We started giving you the apple rice cereal and you absolutely love it. Once we began cereal every night {about 2 1/2 weeks ago} you started sleeping through the night from about 9:30-7am. No more getting up hungry at 4:30-5! Woohoo! We are working on getting you to bed earlier too but the past few nights you are out by 9:30, sleep 30 minutes then wide awake until 11-11:30. What in the world??

  • You are still on a good schedule. Now you eat rice cereal in the morning and evening and we've recently switched you to only 4 bottles a day. 9:30-10 after your morning cereal, 1:30-2, 5:30-6 after your evening cereal, and then around 9 after your bath. You take two naps, one in the late morning and one late afternoon but you'll still fall asleep if we're going back and forth to Greenwood {Sugar}. This schedule I'm sure will change in the Fall as I will start having to be at work at 10am and take him to the sitter before. For now I just go in to work whenever I can and he has stayed with the sitter or Mrs Jane. Sometimes when Chad gets home from work at 3-4pm I'll go to work and get the most done once store is closed after 6pm. It's nice to have an amazing store manager and create my own schedule. I've been lucky, trust me I know, but once Fall comes around things are definitely going to change.
  • We also gave you a little baby applesauce and baby squash this past week just to see what you would do. Only a few bites here and there. You still aren't sure about it but we hope to start incorporating baby food more this month. You also tried a pear slice and apple slice in your "mesh fruit thingy" {whatever they are called} while outside on hot Summer days. You love it when they are super cold straight out of the fridge. Oh and a little bit of apple juice which you went crazy over. Only have had an ounce or so maybe twice. You've tried so many new things this month and LOVE TO EAT :)
  • When you are sitting in our lap you can still hold on to our hands, pull yourself up and stand up.
"Mom you're suppose to make it look not-so-neat. Let me show you..."
"HA HA I messed it up!!!!"
Told y'all. He is. a. MESS.
  • You chew on EVERYTHING. No teeth yet but you seem to be teething big time. Teethers and toys are your bffs.
  • You also blow bubbles all the time and love to "yell" more so than "sing" these days. You get so excited and just squeal. It's pretty funny.
  • You're ticklish on your hands and belly. Your laugh is the cutest thing I've ever heard or seen. You laugh a lot. Probably because your mama & daddy are so crazy!
  • You love to watch TV. We listen to the music channels a lot and Baby Einstein DVDs. Your favorite is the reggae music channel. Not even joking. You are asleep within a few minutes when Bob Marley is involved.
Little chub cheeks.
  • You definitely cry when I {I mean "we"} leave the room :) Not always, of course, but if you're fussy and think we are leaving you, it's all over. S-P-O-I-L-E-D.
  • You're almost starting to reach for people when we go to pick you up. You kinda lift your arms awkwardly. It's sweet.
  • You pull my hair ALL the time. One thing for sure you are strong as an ox.
  • You tried the jumparoo for the first time and have LOVED it. At first your feet wouldn't quite touch the ground so we used a pillow but lately you must have hit a growth spurt because now they touch and you jump like crazy. It is so funny to watch!

  • Grami bought you a walker for $5 from a yard sale. We cleaned it up good and it is now your favorite thing. You actually push your legs and go all over the hardwood floors. It is hilarious. Your favorite toy is the "giraffe" or "Giraffe-a-el" as Chad calls him. You sit in the walker, chew on the teething toys on the giraffe, and this is how I take a shower, get ready, wash bottles....yeah, do everything. Best way to keep you content and you love when we take it outside too!
This boy loves being outside more than anything!
  • You are into everything. Yes at 5 months. You flip over in your bouncey and try to get everything sitting in the kitchen island when I have you in the kitchen watching me cook. You scoot around in the walker and go over to the plants and tear them apart. You scoot over to the tupperware cabinet and try to get in because you saw me give you something from there one time. Needless to say our hands are full and you are a sneaky little fella. No taking our eyes off of you for a second!
  • You also love laying on your tummy and raising your hands up like you're flying. You like the carpet in your room since the rug in the den isn't too comfy/plush.

  • Favorite books to read before bed are Goodnight Moon, I Thank God for You, and The Going to Bed book. You also like playing this plush book.

  • Just this week we let you sit in the bath seat and take a bath that way. Oh my goodness you were in heaven. First time playing with your rubber duckies and you just sat back chillin' like a big boy. Much better than trying to lay you in the baby tub and you constantly trying to sit up in it yourself. This bath seat is going to make bath time, which you love, even more fun!

"What? You mean these aren't made for me to put in my mouth?"

Sitting up on your own, a messy chalkboard, sock monkey thrown on the floor...

just a glimpse of what's to come in the "monthly photoshoots" ahead :)

Thank God for him everyday and looking forward to another sweet month!
