Enjoying the little things.

Who knew that this little package could entertain for hours?

No, really.

This past Saturday I was able to spend lots of quality time with our twin nephews. Just me and them. A rare treat! Chad was on a fishing trip and the boys wanted to come "help Aunt Sanni clean" since that's what I said I was doing after the women's luncheon at church. So they happily left baby brother at home with mom & dad and off to Aunt Sanni's they went. They did indeed help me clean, then we proceeded to go outside and find more entertainment water flowers.

You see, one had to precisely pour the contents of the Miracle Grow packet into the watering can...

then the other filled it up with water and watched it bubble.

Then took turns and did it again...and again...and again.

See how this works?

Aaah, the simple days when we were all amused and entertained by filling up buckets.
Funny - now it just seems like a chore.

After a little picnic by the pool, we went inside because Aunt Sanni was too hot to finish cleaning. They wanted to vacuum our living room rug and before they got started, pointed out that somebody vacuumed up one of Uncle Chad's guitar picks. [they could see it all tangled up in dust balls inside the Dyson. They don't miss a thing honey!]. Well that somebody, I blamed, was Miss Courtney who helped me clean last week.

The twins were not happy about this.

me: "Whew boys, I am soooooooooo tired..."
Maddox: [mimicking me] "Well, I am soooooooooo mad!"
me: "What? Why?"
Maddox exclaimed so loud: "Because YOU let Courtney suck Uncle Chad's guitar pick into the vacuum cleaner!!"

I seriously started laughing out loud. He's FOUR! I tried to tell him it would be fine, but then I'd hear Jackson mumble under his breath "Uncle Chad is going to be soooo mad".
I was in big trouble, I suppose.

They wouldn't vacuum until I quickly emptied the contents of the Dyson and salvaged Uncle Chad's beloved guitar pick. Oh, and washed it off of course. Maddox put it in his pocket to save it for him....so he said. Sneaky little thing.

Later, we went to my mom's and spent hours swinging on the front porch playing a game I hadn't played since I was little. You know, the ol "Let's guess which color the car will be that drives by next" game. Yep, again, that's all you need to keep em happy. That and a bag of chocolates. Ok ok, so maybe that was for me.

After playing football in the yard and eating a yummy supper too, we left mom's around sunset and it was time to take the home. Needless to say, they kept me laughing all afternoon and while I scurried to find "projects" to keep them entertained, really I was the one being entertained.

They are at such a fun age and it was a day full of the best reminder:
Enjoy the simple things. Enjoy the little things.

For one day I'll look back and realize those little things are all that really mattered :)
