What plans?

[warning: this post contains a very detailed weekend recap with no photos - bummer, i know - but plenty photos from Matt & Amanda's wedding coming soon...]

The title pretty much sums up our weekend. While yes, we always make plans for the weekend, we are left with yet another reminder that God is always sitting back laughing at us. [Always loved that quote "If you wanna make God laugh, tell him YOUR plans"] He already has perfect plans for us and just when I think I have it all planned out, He quickly reminds me to sit back and simply watch. [You would think I would know this by now, since of course I never planned to walk down the isle alone on my wedding day, but God's plan was to call my dad home the month before our wedding. Yeah, talk about a wake up call. At that point, I never again questioned His plan or thought I had it all figured out, but every now and then we all certainly need to be reminded]

Friday evening, we had planned to have a "date night". Honestly, I can't remember the last time we went to dinner and a movie. Usually it consists of like dinner at Zaxbys and a trip to Lowes. (how old we are?) So since I had been out of town last weekend and insanely busy at work, plus Chad was working like a maniac too, plus hunting season was also in high gear, we decided some quality time together would be the perfect remedy to a long stressful week.

Well, that's not exactly what happened...

Example #1:
Long story short: I was super busy at the store until about 6:30 (there goes plans of leaving a few minutes early, but how in the world can I complain?), then my mom called and I had to go by and get medicine for my grandad. A strong antibiotic he had to start taking that night. Ok, fine, won't take but a few minutes. Until you leave your wallet at work and have to go back to get it. Nice. Then there were complications at the pharmacy since it didn't appear the dr. had even called in the meds. Needless to say at about 8:00 I come strolling in the house after taking care of papa. To my surprise, my sweet husband had cooked an amazing dinner for us and luckily we had just gotten Killers on Netflix. So all in all, it was a nice relaxing night that we were able to laugh off the stress of the day and enjoy time together. Whether you're at a ritzy restuarant at 6pm or eating dinner on the couch at 9pm, it's the quality time that really matters. Thank you Lord for putting that into perspective.

Then Saturday, I photographed a beautiful wedding - which we all know how weddings go - nothing ever goes as planned. I didn't leave as soon as I had planned, but still made it over to friends house and was able to catch the end of the Clemson game and spend some time with my little man, Logan and great friends. All in all, no matter what little detail didn't go right that day, it ended up being a beautiful day, perfect weather, and you know the bride and groom were in such pure bliss, that any and all "unplanned" events were erased from thought. That's the beauty of it all. Thanks again for putting that into perspective.

Finally, the last example would be yesterday. We had a great morning at church, as planned, then decided to start on the guest bedroom and move everything out to get it ready for remodeling (yeah, another lovely plan of ours) Well nothing really went right. We ended up just shifting things from one end of the room to the other because there was so much STUFF (how can two people accumulate so much?) and at one point we were just sitting there laughing until I nearly cried because it was so hysterical that we weren't accomplishing a thing. Oh well, I knew I was looking forward to Mexican and having some "girl time" that evening, until the phone rang telling us my granddad was still having complications and we had to take him to the ER. So off we go to the ER to sit for about 6 hours, but praise the Lord my granddad is ok and we have an appt. tomorrow to see a specialist. Thank you Lord for taking care of him and reminding me to put trust you entirely and put EVERYTHING in your hands.

At church Sunday, we sang "everything is beautiful in HIS time". So true. There are so many times I try to rush things, become too focused on unimportant petty details, and feel like everything and everybody is on MY time. Not the case at all. Moral of the story is this: The unimportant things, like a fancy date night, small details that aren't exactly perfect, and having a super clean, organized, remodeled house doesn't matter at all. It's all about spending time with the ones you love the most and enjoying God's, sometimes small, blessings. Hand over everything to Him because in HIS time...everything will be beautiful according to HIS perfect plan.

"For I know the plans for you..." - jeremiah 29:11
few prayer request:
* my granddad, pray we find out exactly what is wrong with him tomorrow when we see the specialist
**cousin LeAnn Klein - peach sized ovary on her cyst and two kidney stones. She will find out today whether or not they will have to do surgery.
*Lyndsie and Daniel - keep in prayer as they continue their journey of adoption and bring home their sweet baby!!
*Also, my friend Courtney Henry, former sorority sister Jaime at Fried Pink Tomato, and blogger friend Megan at Megan's Bits & Pieces - all having babies the next few weeks.
Hope everyone has a great week
