Move in Day

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Today is Move In Day at the University of South Carolina. Some 6,853 undergrads will move into the campus residence halls. Oh how it takes me back... ...to 8 years ago when my family loaded up two cars and traveled two hours to USC's campus where I moved into the Wade Hampton women's dorm. I had a "potluck" roomie, who I had spoken to on the phone but never met. Today was the day. Would she be weird? Would we get along? Would she steal my clothes? Stay up too late? Like to eat as much as me? (i mean c'mon, we all think these things) She was from Chattanooga, TN and attended Baylor. I was from the tiny town of Abbeville, SC and attended a high school named Dixie. (yep, not a lie). We were different, but later realized alike in so many ways. Little did we know after praying about our first roomate ever, the Lord listened to both of us and we were destined to be not only great roomies, but also great friends.
We had SO much fun our freshman year. From pledging sororities, tailgating & cheering on the Gamecocks, meeting new friends, etc. It was more than I could have ever asked for.

{in our tiny little dorm room}
good ol' Wade Hampton. This is also where I met some of my best friends Cameron and Ashley.
We finished our degrees and graduated in 2006. Courtney went on to be a nurse and I started selling ads for a publication in Greenville.
She met the love of her life and in 2007 I was honored to be an "honorary" in her wedding...
a year later, she returned the favor and was an honorary in my own wedding. This is the last time I've seen Court and I can not believe it's been TWO YEARS!
Very thankful that we are the type of friends who can go without talking for weeks, sometimes months at a time, and pick up right where we left off. We've kept in touch but Chad and I are so excited to head to North Carolina tomorrow to FINALLY see her, her husband Kirk, and her baby girl Cayden (who's almost 2). They are also expecting a little boy next month.
We have SO MUCH to catch up on and looking forward to a great visit!
What is your favorite memory about move in day?

  1. How fun! Hope y'all have a great weekend! :)

    P.S. Let me know when you mark down the rest of your spring/summer Lilly anymore, like the Multi Picked Patch Del Mar in the 8...unless it's already gone. :)
