We stayed at the famous Rhett House Inn - named "one of the best Inns in the South" by Southern Living Magazine. I felt just like Scarlett O' Hara out on the veranda of this stately antebellum mansion.
We did a little sightseeing in downtown Beaufort on Sunday and then for our anniversary dinner we ate at 11th Street Dockside on Port Royal, which was some of THE best seafood I've ever ate. We had amazing calamari, seafood alfredo, and Chad tried shrimp and grits. They are known for shrimping in Beaufort {it was the place where they filmed shrimp boats and Bubba Gump's funeral in Forest Gump}. The food is phenomenal.
{One Year Anniversary}
Beaufort has the most original antebellum houses in South Carolina since it was the only town the Unions didn't burn. They used Beaufort as a "wounded soldier recovery" town and turned churches into hospitals. Beaufort is still more than 70% northerners today. See...that carriage ride paid off after all!The next day we ventured out to Hunting Island State Park and climbed to the top of the Hunting Island Light House! Hunting Island was the site of many famous movie sets like Prince of Tides, The Jungle Book, Forest Gump and more was filmed. It has a very "jungle" look about it, which you wouldn't expect on the coast of SC. It was the great end to our little getaway!
