love is not a fight...

So unless you've been living under a rock this week, you know Jon & Kate Gosselin filed divorce papers yesterday and you probably watched Jon & Kate + 8 Monday night while your hearts broke along with the other millions of Americans watching. I'm a huge fan of Jon & Kate +8, read Kate's book and was very saddened to see this tragic situation unfold on TV monday night. Coming from a broken home myself - my heart goes out to the children and I pray that this experience does nothing but strengthen them and bring them closer together as a family.

I couldn't help but to think of the lyrics to this song by Warren Barfield {used as soundtrack for movie Fireproof - awesome movie btw if you haven't seen it} great message.

Love is not a place
To come and go as we please
It’s a house we enter in
And then commit
to never leave

So lock the door behind you
Throw away the key
We’ll work it out together
Let it bring us to our knees

Love is a shelter
In a raging storm
Love is peace
In the middle of a war
If we try to leave
May God send angels
To guard the door
No, love is not a fight
But it’s something worth fighting for

To some love is a word
That they can fall into
But when they’re falling out
Keeping their word is hard to do

Love is a shelter
In a raging storm
Love is peace
In the middle of a war
If we try to leave
May God send angels
To guard the door
No, love is not a fight
But it’s something worth fighting for

Love will come to save us
If we’ll only call
He will ask nothing from us
But demand we give our all

Love is a shelter
In a raging storm
Love is peace
In the middle of a war
If we try to leave
May God send angels
To guard the door
No, love is not a fight
But it’s something worth fighting for

I will fight for you
Would you fight for me?
It’s worth fighting for

What the bible says regarding marriage:
Love flows through a marriage that lives up to mutual responsibility. “Love is not self seeking, it’s not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong.” (1 Corinthians 13:5 )

Isn't it so easy to be selfish these days? In my own marriage I pray for us to be as unselfish and giving as we possibly can and use each day to sacrifice for the other. A good friend of mine told me marriage is 110/110 , not 50/50. Our "mutual responsibility" is to always choose to go above and beyond for your spouse, not choose your own "self-seeking" ways.

I know reality television and our society has taken such a toll on Jon & Kate and for this, my heart really does break because I myself am one of those who buys every magazine with them on the cover and continues to feed the hungry paparazzi industry, so I know I'm at fault. However, it's their decision to stay in the limelight and continue this way of life. Will J&K+8 fans continue to watch the show? What do you think?

Love is not a fight, but it's something worth fighting for.
