Disney Day 1: Animal Kingdom

Tuesday, February 14, 2017

We arrived at Orlando airport a little after 10am and walked down to Disney's Magical Express entrance. You scan your MagicBand and get in line for the bus to your resort. It was about a 20 minute or so wait, then we were on our way to Coronado Springs!

We didn't think the room would be ready until after 3pm, but they actually texted us around 11:30ish when we were in route and said it was. We finally got there (it's about a 30 minute ride from the airport to any Disney resort) checked in and headed to our room just to change Cade and leave his bookbag in the room. One thing about Coronado Springs: it is VERY spread out and a lot of walking. Beautiful resort. I'll post more later, but lucky for us our room was right next to a bus stop and the pool!

Cade got all changed and Chad switched to a short sleeve tee, then we made our way to the bus stop to head to Animal Kingdom!

First stop: a Fastpass for the ride Dinosaur. I was nervous if he would be too scared, but he did great. I think mama was the scared one! HA

We also rode Triceratop Spin, but Cade wasn't tall enough for Primeval Whirl!

We walked around for a bit, enjoyed lots of live music (which Cade loved and danced to 24/7) then it was going on 1'o clock. At this point, we were starved so we used two Quick Service credits (we had a Disney dining plan and it was the perfect amount for our quick trip and so incredibly convenient) at Harambe Market for lunch. Cade and I shared the Beef & Pork Sausage (fried in curried corn batter, so it was like a big ol' corndog. Plenty enough to share with a child + an adult). I loved the Green Papaya Slaw and the Black-eyed Pea Salad too. Chad had the Beef & Lamb Gyro Flatbread. One thing about us, we love to eat and I'm so thankful Cade doesn't mind trying new foods. We loved it!

Fastpass for the Kilimanjaro Safari was up next and probably one of my favs at Animal Kingdom. Cade's too! All of the animals ... he loved. That is so his thing. It was a laid back ride anyone would enjoy and yes, the flamingos were maaah favvvv.

in front of the Tree of Life. When it warmed up I threw that jacket around my waist. It is the best lightweight anorak jacket ever!

Chad rockin' that Kavu backpack...

then we got to meet Tarzan and I mean...that outfit though
(cue monkey emoji with his hands over his eyes)

Chad was like "I go to the bathroom for two seconds and y'all cuddle up with Tarzan. I see how it is!" I busted out laughing...

We went to A Bug's Life, then I tried a Dole Whip for the first time at Tamu Tamu! I'm not even a huge pineapple fan, but it was refreshing and delish. Cade loved it the most...

gel nail color is called "Fairy Dreams"

Then he stood in line for a few minutes to meet Dug! (I'm gonna be honest here when I say I had no clue who this was, but Cade seemed to be pretty stoked about it soo...)

and all three of us in front of the Tree of Life!

more snacks!!! hey, all of the walking made us hungry and I think we had 18 snack credits to use within four days soooo...

We had another FastPass for the Festival of the Lion King show and it. was. awesome. So many great videos of Cade's little eyes lighting up as he watched the show. They'd finish a song and he'd say "Is it over???" not because he wanted to leave, but because HE DIDN'T WANT IT TO END!

We wanted to go to the Finding Nemo show but we ran out of time. Saving it for next go'round...

We had dinner reservations at Tusker House at 5:30, an all-you-can-eat buffet character dining experience that was so good. Honestly, we were still even a little full from lunch and our  many snacks. There was an African-food vibe where I started off the meal with nan bread and hummus, then ended it with bread pudding. I seriously could not eat another bite. Delish. Cade met Mickey and pals (who were dressed up in their safari gear) for the first time and was just in AWE...

seriously the sweetest thing...

he loooves Daisy!

Cade even joined Goofy and danced in his line dance!

After dinner we had full bellies and the exhaustion of me being up since 2:30 am (and everyoneelse up since 3:30-4) finally started to set in. We finished up by watching the Tree of Life nighttime show right at sunset (Animal Kingdom was closing at 7:30pm that night), then made a dash to the buses to go get in our pjs. We knew we needed to rest up for Cade's birthday and a long day at Magical Kingdom the next day...woohoo...
