obsessions: doors and windows

Wednesday, September 17, 2014

I posted this photo back in August as we were still waiting for our french doors to be installed in the new house living room. They were installed, but then we were waiting for the transom windows to arrive, which will go above.

This photo has been our inspiration for our decision to trade out the fireplace in our house plan to french doors/windows and do a built in entertainment center on the other wall for our TV. We never saw a single photo of the exact french doors/windows we would get, but trusted our builder 100%.
It turned out even better than we envisioned.

Our living room space is not a huge space. It's not any bigger than our living room now, but our new one has 13 ft ceilings. As much as I loooove a gorgeous fireplace, we'd probably never use it  (Um, Chad will hardly let it get above 68 degrees in this house!!) It stung a little making that decision, but the better choice for us would be french doors to open up on to the deck (perfect for entertaining) and all of the natural light would make the room look more open!

More inspiration...

I love the idea of dark hardwood floors, light walls, light drapes.

Or maybe do fun layers like this...

I've even thought about doing black french doors. Obsessed with this...

or gray french doors. So chic.

The options are endless.

The transom windows were installed yesterday and here's the final view. A wall full of doors and windows...and all that natural light. That glorious, glorious LIGHT!
(and this was even when it was cloudy late yesterday evening)

View from the back of the house...

Looking out from this wall of doors and windows, well...sure, I wish we had stunning views of rolling pastures, pecan trees, or hey a beach maybe? Our view will be a small deck, which they will begin very soon so they can begin siding back there, and trees. Yes, trees pretty darn close to our house, but hey I do love it. It's cozy, private, and I'm determined to plant lots of pretty azaleas, dogwood trees, etc... to give it more color.

Maybe one day a patio and more, who knows - maybe a setup like this...

Ok, sooooo we may have to win the lottery first but you get the idea.

More updates to come!

**Oh and I finally got all of my new house posts labeled so they will all now show up under "Home Sweet Home" tab at the top of the blog. Organization makes me happy. Hooray**
